Making the Most of Life With A Frequent Business Traveller
Steve and I live in Winnipeg, Canada and have been married for a couple of decades. Steve works in the IT sector and I have a public relations practice called Message Communications. We live a fairly urban lifestyle in a downtown loft with few responsibilities. No kids. No pets. A few plants (some faring better than others).
We’re a bit on the introverted side, which surprises some people because we can be outgoing.
Coping with a Business Travelling Spouse
For the past ten years or so, Steve has travelled a lot for work. Most of the time the trips are short duration within North America, but he’s also been away for weeks at a time to far-flung places. I’ve done a bit of corporate travel too, but mostly it’s Steve racking up the frequent traveller points. I’m fairly independent and enjoy my own company more than any normal person would, so most of the time it’s all good. Still, being a tag-along spouse as well as staying behind both have their challenges.
As much as we love our hometown (yes, even in winter at -40 C), if we had our way, we’d travel all the time. The way we cope when not travelling is by planning our next trip – which usually starts before the previous trip ends.
Does the Internet need another travel blog?
Well … probably not. But as an avid visitor of travel sites and blogs, I’ve never come across one that speaks specifically to the “tag-along spouse” niche. So, what the heck? I thought a blog would force me to keep a detailed diary of my travels beyond my TripAdvisor reviews and the email updates I send to my family when I’m away.
