Welcome to Tag Along Travel
Hi there! I’m Deborah and my spouse travels for work a lot. Sometimes I tag along, which is fab because who doesn’t love to travel? But it’s not always a passport to fun. When I’m grounded at home and he’s away, it can feel like a long layover after the airport bar closes. Join me to find out how to make business travel and marriage work. I recap my favourite travel destinations and adventures while trying to sort out how to enjoy the journey, whether tagging along or not.

Experiencing Indigenous Culture at Manito Ahbee
Manito Ahbee is a festival of North American Indigenous culture, art, music, and dance that takes place in Winnipeg each May. It includes North America’s second largest pow wow featuring more than 800 dancers who compete for prize money. If you’ve never been to a pow wow, it’s an exhilarating experiencing that is difficult to convey in words or even photos. It’s awesome in the true sense of that word. […]
How to Deal with Bad Weather on Vacation
You plan for months, maybe look forward to a single day at one of the iconic sites, you envision yourself in that cute little sundress you’re planning to wear. But then things don’t turn out exactly as you planned and you’re hit with rain, hail, gale force winds or worse. The truth is, there’s no magical solution for how to deal with bad weather on vacation. We’ve been pretty lucky, but there have been times … […]
How travel frees us to become someone else
One of the things I love about travel is how it frees me to become someone else for a while. Not that I completely abandon my tastes and sensibilities, but I do many things I wouldn’t dream of on home base. I bet it’s the same for a lot of people. It’s like you take a little vacation from yourself when you’re away from home. Here are some things I would never have done if not for travel. […]
Why solo restaurant dining is hard and what to do about it
I do it when I’m on tag-along trips with Steve all the time. Sometimes I like it and other times it still makes me feel uncomfortable. Solo restaurant dining is not for the self-conscious. Given that the number of North American adults living alone has tripled in the last century, you’d think we’d all be totally comfortable with our single selves dining out, but a quick Google search reveals a ton of articles and blog posts about how to deal with this condition of modern life. […]
Review: Reef Safe Sunscreen
I confess, I don’t give a lot of thought to the ingredients in my toiletries. That changed when we were preparing for our recent trip to Belize. Our tour company provided explicit guidelines for biodegradable products including reef safe sunscreen. I wasn’t prepared for how difficult it was to get my hands on some. […]
Why joining a car share is smart for frequent travellers
Steve and I are always seeking out ways to simplify our lives given our frequent travel. One of the best things we’ve done in the past few months is to sell our car and join Peg City Car Coop. Joining a car share program is smart for frequent travellers. We should have done it long ago. […]
Tag-Along Trip to Columbus, Ohio – Swinging it Solo
Usually, when I tag along on Steve’s business travel, we spend most evenings together. His recent trip to Columbus, however, would be a weekend full of work commitments. We’d spend time together the first night, and that was about it. I debated whether to go or not, but after Columbus, he was off to India for a long two weeks without me. So, I decided to challenge myself to have fun for a weekend away on my own. Columbus turned out to be a great place to do that. […]
Belize Review: Island Expeditions Ultimate Adventure – Island Life
Snorkeling along the world’s second largest barrier reef, tandem kayaking with my favourite human being, paddle boarding, and soaking up the tropical sun; the second part of our Island Expeditions Ultimate Adventure tour held great promise. We didn’t get a lot of sun, unfortunately, but that didn’t dampen our enthusiasm. […]
Belize Review: Island Expeditions Ultimate Adventure – Hello Sun!
For a Canadian in the dark depths of wintery February, there is nothing stronger than the draw of a tropical paradise vacation. Steve and I are not sit-on-the-beach people though, so we’re always looking to add a bit of adventure to a sun-drenched escape. The Island Expeditions Ultimate Adventure tour in Belize looked to be the perfect fix including kayaking, caving, snorkelling, and camping along the banks of the Moho River. […]
