Welcome to Tag Along Travel
Hi there! I’m Deborah and my spouse travels for work a lot. Sometimes I tag along, which is fab because who doesn’t love to travel? But it’s not always a passport to fun. When I’m grounded at home and he’s away, it can feel like a long layover after the airport bar closes. Join me to find out how to make business travel and marriage work. I recap my favourite travel destinations and adventures while trying to sort out how to enjoy the journey, whether tagging along or not.

Two great tours for travellers who hate tours
I used to hate the idea of organized tours of any kind. It evoked images of crowded busses filled with timid travellers who enjoyed being herded around from attraction to attraction and being spoon fed curated bits of local culture. Yuk. […]
9 essential items for your travel kitchen
Tagging along on Steve’s corporate travel often means staying in an extended stay hotel with a kitchenette. We also prefer renting an apartment when we travel on vacation too because you can prepare the occasional meal rather than eat out the entire time. This saves cash, time, and your waistline. […]
The adjustment dance: When a frequent business traveller returns
People can be odd and I’m certainly one of the oddest. Despite loving to travel and try different things, I’m really into my routine. When I’m not travelling I have a set workout schedule, rotating breakfast menu, and I grocery shop every Thursday (yes, every Thursday). So I guess it’s not surprising that when Steve returns from weeks of business travel I haven’t tagged along on, I find it a bit … jarring. Even though I miss him when he’s gone. His return home sets me off a touch. […]
Istanbul tag on to a tag-along trip (Part 2): Food and street cons edition
You can find a ton of information on the top tourist spots in Istanbul so I’m not going to go into deep detail about the ones we hit, which were the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market. Also, the experiences on the street tend to be more interesting to us. Having said that, the tourist spots we visited were all very worthwhile. […]
Solving challenges of business travel with your spouse
Tagging along with your significant other on business travel is different than travelling together on vacation. It’s a semi-independent travel experience that requires flexibility and a good dose of understanding. Even after a decade of accompanying Steve on various corporate gigs, I still have to remind myself at times that these two ingredients are key to a positive experience. […]
Do you use your credit card concierge services?
You’re on vacation and suddenly realize that it’s Aunt Jane’s birthday and you forgot to send her a gift. Or maybe you’re away on business and realize that the haircut you’ve been putting off has caught up to you, but you don’t have time to source a decent stylist who can fit you in. What to do? […]
What happened to collecting souvenir spoons? I think I know
When I was a kid, three of my aunts had souvenir spoon collections. I recall asking my mom why my aunts didn’t use them for eating instead of hanging them on a rack. I don’t recall my 6-year-old self getting a satisfactory answer. They seem so antiquated now, but people must still collect them because I see them in the tourist shops. […]
Adventure Tour: Colourful Costa Rica
Winnipeggers endure a cold season from about November 26 to March 6. In January and February days with a high below -20°C (-4°F) are not uncommon. Yes, it gets chilly. So, if you’re fortunate enough to be able to afford it, you skip out for a week or two somewhere warm. […]
Review – Can an app really help your relationship?
Couple is a smartphone app available on iOS and Android that gives couples a private space to share their lives together. Just two people can access the app, you and your partner. Can an app really help your relationship? […]
